Mental Health Begins with YOU!

We’ve heard the statistics, but what can we do about it?

On October 10, Australians will mark World Mental Health Day. This year, TeamHEALTH Inc. has partnered with Mental Health Australia to help get the message out about their campaign, Mental Health Begins with Me!

The campaign has three themes:

1.            Encouraging people to seek help when they need it

2.            Helping to break down stigma in relation to mental illness

3.            Bringing communities together

They are asking everyone to get involved by making a simple personal mental health promise.

Helen Egan, CEP, TeamHEALTH said that TeamHEALTH joined this campaign to break down the stigma that stops Australians from seeking help when they need it.

“Almost 70% of people with a mental illness don’t seek help, but by showing our support for mental health we can start to change this.”

It all happens at the website, https://1010.org.au.

Head to the website and make a mental health promise to yourself (Hyperlink to https://1010.org.au/promise/add). After that, share your promise on social media, using the hashtag #WMHD2015.

“Sharing is just as important as making a promise. It shows others that it’s OK to talk about mental illness, whether we have an illness or not” Ms Egan said.

TeamHEALTH provides early intervention, education and mental health services to the Top End community.

It is the goal of TeamHEALTH to build capacity within the Top End community to understand and manage mental health issues.

TeamHEALTH’s programs are provided within a model of recovery focussed psychosocial rehabilitation and within the framework of the National Mental Health Plan and Standard.

TeamHEALTH works closely with other local specialist service providers such as Top End Mental Health Services (TEMHS), drug/alcohol services and other non-government organisations.
