Carer Support Program

The Carer Support Program provides a range of flexible support options for carers and families of people with mental illness whose health and wellbeing is impacted by their caring role. The aim of the service is to improve the health and wellbeing of our carers through social and economic participation in our community so that they may continue to provide the highest level of support to the person/s that they care for.

What is a carer?

You are a carer if you have the main responsibility for providing or arranging care for someone else who cannot care for themselves. A carer maybe one of the following:

  • A family member
  • A partner
  • A friend
  • A neighbour

The carer may provide a range of support that includes:

  • Providing emotional support
  • Personal care such as cooking/cleaning/shopping
  • Ensuring medication is taken at the right times

How can the Carer Support Program help me?

Our program is designed to help you sustain your caring role and improve the care that you provide to the person/s that you care for. The program focuses on the maintenance and/or improvement of your physical and mental health and wellbeing so that you may develop increased confidence, with the capacity to make better choices.

How will I be supported?

The Carer Support Program will allow you to step out of your caring role, providing a temporary break through participation in:

  • Peer Support Groups
  • Breakaway Trips
  • Educational sessions
  • Workshops
  • Social inclusion/outings
  • Wellbeing activities
  • Relaxation
  • Meditation/tai chi/yoga
